USDA adds Pollock to their Commodity Program as a healthier alternative to traditional proteins served in school lunches across the country.

Good Harbor Fillet announced that as a result of their efforts, the USDA has added Pollock to their Commodity Processing Program. In a partnership with Duane Williams and Martin E. O’Connor from the USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Branch as well as Massachusetts Congressman John Tierney, Good Harbor pushed for the creation of this program to present schools the opportunity to purchase delicious and nutritious fish products at an affordable price. Good Harbor's partnership with the Seattle based F/V Golden Alaska was instrumental in the development and realization of this program.A747 Pollock

Good Harbor is the only approved vendor in the Commodity Processing Program that can process this new commodity Pollock into a range of great tasting products that are also more nutritious. Using NutraPure® Protein, the company’s proprietary ingredient, they can offer schools delicious crunchy breaded sticks, nuggets and portions that are available in whole grain and low sodium all with up to 30% less fat than similar products.

Good Harbor pioneered the addition of higher quality, mild tasting Golden Alaska Pollock to the program with the goal of getting kids to eat more fish. Bill Stride, Good Harbor Fillet President and CEO said, “The obesity epidemic in this country is a real problem. It has always been our desire to help kids eat better and foster the next generation of seafood lovers by offering schools the perfect combination of great taste and better nutrition at a price they can afford. We are proud that we can do our part to help kids make healthier choices.”
